How Our Stargazing Experience Is Organized

After dinner, we gather together and walk for about 10 minutes into the dunes to a quiet, dark location where there is no light pollution.

We begin with an introduction to the mythology of the nomads and explain how they used the stars they observed at night to navigate during the day.

Using a professional laser pointer, we guide you through the night sky, introducing the most important stars and constellations.

As night falls over the golden dunes of Merzouga, the Sahara transforms into one of the world’s most breathtaking natural observatories. After enjoying a traditional Moroccan dinner beneath the stars, your unforgettable evening continues with an exclusive Sahara Stargazing Experience.

Together, we take a peaceful 10-minute walk across the silent dunes, leaving behind every source of artificial light. Far from civilization, you’ll arrive at a secluded location where the desert sky reveals its full magic. With virtually no light pollution, thousands of stars, the Milky Way, and distant planets become brilliantly visible to the naked eye.

Your local guide will introduce you to the fascinating astronomy traditions of the Sahara nomads. For centuries, Berber travelers relied on the stars to cross the endless desert, using celestial navigation long before maps and GPS existed. Discover the legends, myths, and stories woven into the constellations that have guided caravans across the Sahara for generations.

Using a professional high-powered laser pointer, your guide will lead you on a captivating journey through the night sky, identifying the brightest stars, major constellations, planets visible that evening, and the magnificent Milky Way stretching from horizon to horizon. Learn how to recognize celestial landmarks while hearing ancient stories passed down through generations of desert nomads.

Relax in the peaceful silence of the dunes, breathe the fresh desert air, and experience one of the clearest night skies on Earth. Whether you’re passionate about astronomy, photography, or simply seeking a magical moment, this immersive experience creates memories that will stay with you long after your journey through Morocco.

The experience begins after dinner with a peaceful 10-minute walk into the Erg Chebbi dunes, away from all artificial lights. Once in a pristine dark-sky location, our local guide introduces the ancient astronomy traditions of the Sahara nomads, explaining how they used the stars to navigate the desert for centuries. The complete experience typically lasts between 1.5 and 3 hours, depending on the season, weather conditions, and guests’ interest. Stargazing generally begins after dinner and can continue until around midnight when conditions are ideal.

Merzouga is located in the heart of the Sahara Desert, far from cities and artificial lighting. Not at all. The experience is designed for everyone, from complete beginners to astronomy enthusiasts. Your guide explains everything in a simple, engaging, and enjoyable way.

Depending on the season and sky conditions, you may observe:

  • Bright stars used by ancient nomads for navigation
  • Visible planets like Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, or Mars

For centuries, Berber nomads crossed the Sahara using celestial navigation. During the experience, you’ll discover how they identified directions, determined seasons, and safely traveled across the endless dunes by reading the night sky.

Yes. Families with children are welcome. The storytelling, legends, and laser-guided sky tour make the experience enjoyable for guests of all ages.

Even after warm days, desert temperatures can become cool at night. We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes and bringing a light jacket or warm clothing, especially during autumn and winter.

The experience is offered whenever weather and sky conditions allow. Clear skies provide the best visibility, while cloudy or windy conditions may affect the observation.
